America in Peril - The Chickens Have Come Home to Roost
I’m quite convinced that the chickens have come home to roost, i.e., that the quality of life for American’s has been irreversibly damaged by the confluence of several powerful factors. Some of these factors were unforeseeable–or, even if could have been foreseen, unavoidable–like the off shoring of jobs due to ubiquitous Internet access and artificially inexpensive transportation. Most of the factors, however, are rooted in pure malice, as smart and ruthless people took advantage of frailties in our capitalist system and made astronomical profits by harming hundreds of millions of others. Here, I mean nothing but the lies, greed, and hypocrisy of many of the ruling few–in both the public and the private sectors.
David Simon appeared last Friday, August 17, 2009 on Bill Moyers’ show, and says it so much better than I possibly can. It’s not uplifting, but I’m totally convinced he’s right. You’ll want a cold martini after this one. http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/04172009/watch.html
